Kimberly Bush

Kimberly Bush’s work is infused with rich color, surface design, and symbolic imagery that is created out of meditative states and the inner world where dreams are born. The objects that she makes are physical manifestations of personal landscapes. This is a process that feels very natural to her, as practiced in her work as a therapist for 30 years and in making objects her entire life.

She creates mixed media work that combine collage, watercolor, found objects, and fiber. At present, her work is an exploration of circular and oval forms that are found in nature; symbolic of stones, eggs, seed pods, lichen, or living cells. Using ink, thread, wool, cotton, and silk fibers, she creates imagery on felt, fabric, and paper.

Kimberly lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

My hands guide me to be present and mindful. Through touch and haptic awareness, intuition directs my exploration of color and design. Years of painting, drawing, and collage have laid the groundwork for stitching, felting, and mending. These mindful, meditative practices provide me solace.

Making objects by hand has a long history as a poetic and spiritual practice. Creating is an act that respects the known, unknown, and not-yet-conscious of our collective human experience. It acknowledges the need that human beings have to mark time, create beauty, and mitigate trauma using our own bodies.
