D. J. Drumm

Deb lives in the Berkshires Hills in Massachusetts. She enjoys working with all different mediums ie, silk, wool and assorted fibers, paper and paints and likes to incorporate organic materials in her artwork that are inspired by nature and emotions.

Her many interests include photography, silk dyeing where she studied under Gail Callahan, The Kangaroo Dyer, nuno felting with Jean Gauger, Judith Dios, Pam deGroot and Fiona Duthie. From 2018 to present she studied under Eva Camacho where she learned the art of botanical printmaking and continued learning new felting techniques including joomchi and Shibori.  Botanical printing, which is transferring pigment from flora and fauna, continue to intrigue her with what the outcome will be with each bundle she creates.

SILK,,, A new journey with endless learning and experimenting.

Ten years ago I learned how to dye silk. Shortly after I took a felting class and learned nuno felting. Many classes later I am hooked on printing from the flowers and weeds from my garden and yard.

In 2018 I learned the art of Botanical printing from Eva Camacho where one transfers pigments from flora and fauna to paper, silk and wool. This continues to be a favorite of mine. It is like magic every time when I unwrap my bundles of prints.

The process involves soaking the fabric, paper and flowers, leaves and weeds. Yes weeds make amazing prints. Then a process of wrapping and steaming or boiling the bundles I’ve put together.

From my photography, to growing my herbs, vegetables and flowers, to my dyed silks, felting, print making and watercolors, nature has an ongoing influence in my daily life.
